Down to Business

May 26th is fast approaching, and that means 10k business time!

I’ve been running/training with a very supportive small group of friends who have ended up becoming a primary source of inspiration and motivation. This journey has become much more richer and rewarding because of them. I don’t think I could have achieved half of the personal bests I have over the past few months without their butt-kicking support. A new lesson learned: sometimes fitness and health is a journey best embarked upon with a friend or two or three or four. Inspiring each other is contagious, so pass it on!

This is how I felt after my 5k, and I’m sure I’ll feel the same after my 10k in May :)

I wish more people (women especially) would take on this motto. I have so many female friends who look at the gym as some sort of punishment or something to be dreaded. The key is to find what you like doing (whether it’s in the gym or not) and run with it! You will become addicted to the all-good feeling you get after a workout.

2012 - Year of the Jack(ed up)

2011 was the most amazing year for me in terms of fitness. It marked 1.5 years of dedicated strength training and my very first 5k race. It was the year that I learned the fine art of the follow-through. Goals are nothing if you don’t lay out a clear path and pair it with dedication, gumption, and a set time line that includes small steps which eventually turn into progress, development and personal bests.

This year, I will continue to up the ante and turn it up to 11. To start, I have registered for my very first 10k race. I specifically picked the Sulphur Springs Trail Run because it lands 2 days before my 30th birthday. I want to enter the next decade of my life feeling amazing. I also want to increase the frequency of my strength training at the gym, and add hot yoga to the mix. I snapped up a 10-class pass on sale at a local studio that I plan to spread out (and sweat out) over the year.

I’m looking forward to the challenges that 2012 holds. I know it won’t be easy, but nothing worth having ever is.

Watch this any time you feel like you want to give up or give in to the nagging voices that say “you can’t”.

Fuck yeah, body pump!

Good reminder

I went to a little Christmas gathering last night and didn’t get a chance to grab dinner beforehand. Bad mistake. I filled up on tortilla chips, ruffles, peanut butter cookies, and other treats. I’m usually better at resisting temptation but all bets seemed to be off last night. This morning I woke up feeling like total crap and my stomach wasn’t very happy with me. I’ve been eating clean for a good 3 months now and this is a good reminder as to why! Crap food makes you feel like crap, and good food makes you feel good. Of course, everything in moderation, but I think I’ll stick to eating small nutritious meals every 3 hours.
